Introduction of an ANMC21 Joint Project
ANMC21 is a cooperative effort between major cities and capitals in Asia, working on joint projects to solve problems faced by large cities. This article focuses on two such projects, Promotion of Development of a Small to Medium-sized jet Passenger Plane and Network for Crisis Management.

(1) The 9th Joint Project Meeting on Jet Passenger Planes 2010
The “Promotion of Development of a Small to Medium-sized jet Passenger Plane” joint project, held to bring about advancement in development of small and medium-sized passenger planes through the technology and skill of Asia, was attended by six cities: Delhi, Hanoi, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, and Tokyo.

Each year, the international conference is host to aircraft manufacturers, airlines, and trading companies from across Asia. The 2010 Joint Project Meeting was held in Tokyo from November 29th to 30th.

In the first day, a working-level conference was held at the Haneda Airport which has just opened its new International Terminal in October of 2010. The conference began with a keynote speech by Tohoku University Graduate School Professor Kazuhiro Nakahashi about how to realize the Asia passenger planes. He announced , the “Asia Passenger Plane Vision” which was forged by the Examination Committee made up of heavy machinery manufacturers, trading companies, airlines, and others. The Asia Passenger Plane Vision aims to form a joint effort by 2020 to develop passenger planes of 100 to 150 seats by using the technology of each Asian country, which would connect Asian cities.

Governor Ishihara also gave a speech, during which he stated, “I'd like for Japan to further develop its aviation technology and work together with the countries of Asia to create great aircrafts, passenger planes in particular. By combining our strengths, rather than build large aircrafts, we can build the aircrafts that would seat around two tour buses of passengers, or around 150 people. These are the aircraft that have the greatest efficiency and demand in today's world.
We should achieve this dream, and strongly show Asia's presence to the world. By doing so, we make our ideas into the catalyst for a new page in history. That is my desire.”

Panel discussion
The following panel discussion allowed experts visiting Japan from India, Taiwan, and Indonesia to exchange lively discussion regarding achievement of the goals laid out in the Asia Passenger Plane Vision.

At the afternoon conference, which followed the site-visit to Haneda Airport's new international terminal and control tower, airline companies from each country collaborated in a presentation about expanding and bolstering air routes Asian cities and Tokyo.

Site-visit to Nabtesco's Gifu Plant
The second day consisted of a site visit to the plant of the Nabtesco Corporation in Gifu prefecture. Nabtesco is the world's most prominent maker of flight control actuators, which control the flight attitude of aircrafts. Asian jet passenger plane experts joined the site-visit. They were able to view the production site of cutting-edge aircraft components, and carried out an enthusiastic question and answer session.
