Major Cities' Cutting-Edge Approaches
An introduction of Cutting-Edge Approaches Taken by Asian Network of Major Cities 21(ANMC21) Member Cities

(1) From Tokyo: Tourism × Anime × Tokyo = Welcome to TOKYO
Japan's anime is popular around the world, with famous works known by many, such as Pokemon, AKIRA, and the Academy Award-winning Spirited Away. In fact, the anime industry is regarded as an important regional industry to the city, and viewed as an important resource field in improving the transmission of information on Tokyo. At the same time, Tokyo is also focused on its tourism industry, seeking to realize Tokyo as a lively and unique world city by utilizing a variety of approaches based around the three goals of "conveying Tokyo's appeal around the world," "developing tourism resources," and "refining hospitality policies." Centered on these policies, the Tokyo Tourism website was established in 2002 for both Japanese and foreign tourists, transmitting a variety of tourism information.

Making use of the potential of both anime and tourism, the "Welcome to TOKYO" project was put into action to convey the appeal of Tokyo. A product of the energy of creators working here in Tokyo, the anime "Honey Tokyo" brings together the essence of Tokyo's appeal, while the characters from the anime appear in the "Rally Tokyo" quiz to introduce tourist spots in Tokyo. Each page contains links to previously-existing information on Tokyo tourist spots, introducing many sightseeing locations and allowing the user to have fun while enjoying the unique appeal of Tokyo.

History, culture, shopping, nature... Tokyo can be approached from a variety of angles, and now with "Welcome to TOKYO," the popularity of anime will be at the center of them. Access the website through the link below and start your own anime journey through Tokyo.
