Strengthening Intercity Ties to Resolve Asia's Waste Management and Recycling Issues
-ANMC21 “Study Course: 3Rs and Waste Management” Held in Tokyo -

A “3Rs and Waste Management” training program was held over a five-day schedule in February of 2014. Including the first-time participation of Ulaanbaatar, some 15 participants from five cities were in attendance, with them learning about the current situation and policy measures of each other’s cities. We will convey to you the details of this very successful event.

Aiming to Improve Rescue Skills in the Asia Region
-Rescue Techniques Training Course Held at the Hanoi City Fire Department, Vietnam-

The initial phase of this “Rescue Techniques Training Course” was conducted in Tokyo Fire Department (TFD) in October of 2013, with six trainees from the Hanoi City Fire Department in attendance. Three months after that, TFD trainers visited Hanoi and carried out an intense training program so that Hanoi City Fire Department staff could more fully understand the rescue techniques taught earlier in Tokyo.

This is an interview with Dr. Arief Yudhanto, currently serving as a postdoctoral fellow at KAUST in Saudi Arabia. He is one of the Asian Human Resources Fund exchange students who completed their doctorial programs at Tokyo Metropolitan University last September. On this occasion, Dr. Yudhanto was kind enough to share with us his reminiscences of studying in Tokyo.
