- Report on the IGEM2015 Exhibition and Intercity Workshop -
Tokyo Pavilion

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) participated in the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference (IGEM2015) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from September 9-12, 2015 (Wednesday to Saturday). TMG has been exhibited the Tokyo Pavilion since 2014.
Organizations, such as small and medium sized enterprises in Tokyo, the Tokyo Metropolitan University (a public university founded by TMG), and the Bureau of Waterworks, TMG had booths set up in the pavilion. The Tokyo Pavilion showcased the city's outstanding technologies and know-how, as well as organized business meetings between companies with the hope of resolving the environmental problems of Asian cities through the promotion of economic ties.

"Policies of Tokyo" Presentation

During the business meetings in the company booths, animated exchanges of information were shared and products promoted. Participating companies revealed the business meetings to be constructive. The TMG Policy Promotion Corner received many visitors, such as several Malaysian government environmental organizations. They asked many question pertaining to incentives, tax exemptions, and the cap and trade system relating to the "Green Building" strategies Tokyo has been promoting. ("Green Building" is an architecture which has the lowest possible environmental impact and could conserve energy and emit less CO2.). Malaysia's high level of interest in Tokyo's environmental strategies was evident.

The pavilion was a great success

The Pavilion received on the first day a visit from Minister Maximus Johnity Ongkili of the Malaysian Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA), which hosted the IGEM. The Minister remarked on projects which Tokyo has been implementing in cooperation with Industry, Government and Academia, and offered words of encouragement to find solutions to Asia's environmental problems.

Intercity workshop 2015

In addition, during the IGEM an Intercity Workshop 2015 was organized by Tokyo and Kuala Lumpur with the theme, "Roles of Major Cities and Effective Technologies in Promoting Green Building and Environmental City Development ", with the objective of exchanging information to foster closer inter-city ties and cooperation. In the Workshop, with the assistance of experts from Tokyo Metropolitan University, the Tokyo Metropolitan Small and Medium Enterprise Support Center, the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water of Malaysia, the National Environmental Agency of Singapore and others, a lively exchange of ideas took place on the environmental benefits expected with the practical application of hydrogen fuels, as well as the current and future state of fostering Green Building strategies in Malaysia.
TMG, along with its Asian counterparts, will continue promoting these projects in order to increase business opportunities for small and medium size enterprises in Tokyo and to foster an inter-city relationship to collaborate to solve environmental problems.
