- Messages from Secretariat -

Our web magazine “Interaction Asia” has continued its publication for 7 years since its first edition in January 2009. The following messages are sent from our secretariat members who have engaged in the magazine publication.

The first message is from Ms. Yuki Yamada of International Affairs Office, Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU):

I have worked in International Affairs Office of Tokyo Metropolitan University since 2012 in charge of general affairs related to the acceptance of foreign students who came to study in Japan under the programs of "Asia Human Resources Fund" and "Tokyo Human Resources Fund for City Diplomacy". Under these programs, we accepted 164 students in total from 2008 to 2015.
Every year in autumn, while it is delightful to me to receive new students enrolled in October, it is sad to say good-bye to foreign students leaving Japan after obtaining degrees in September. It was very impressive to me that I had an occasion to reunite the graduates in an alumni event, updating party, held in Bangkok in this August.
Immediately after my arrival at the assignment in TMU, I was engaged in reporting interviews for the 20th Issue of Interaction Asia. It inspired my feeling as I seldom had the opportunities to listen and interview private matters of students.
I remember many episodes with foreign students received in the past 4 years. All of daily communications with each student are of my valuable memories. I feel so grateful that I was given with this opportunity to be involved in this assignment.
Although it is regretful that Asian Human Network Databank will terminate its web magazine publication, we will continue to send information through the website of TMU. Please check it.

The second message is from Ms. Yoshiko Makino from General Affairs Division of Bureau of Port and Harbor, Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG):

I was engaged in an assignment for the publication of Interaction Asia of Asian Human Network Databank at the initial operation in 2009. While many foreign students and trainees came to Tokyo, it was embedded in my memory most impressively that rescue corps members from Seoul and Taipei participated in the TMG Comprehensive Joint Disaster Management Drill 2008.
Trainees from Seoul and Taipei joined very enthusiastically the drill operation. I think that the essential vision of Asian Human Network Databank has been to inspire people's desires to learn mutually and to make their learned lessons contribute to their professional fields and urban development.
Even after I left from the assignment of Interaction Asia, it has been a pleasure for me to read the web magazine Interaction Asia and to know that the mutual leaning among cities has promoted in various manners. Although it is regretful to me to know that the publication of Interaction Asia will be terminated, I sincerely hope the success of all people registered in Asian Human Network Databank and further extension of this network.

The third message is from Ms. Akiko Kurosaki from US Military Facilities Relations Division, Bureau of Urban Development, TMG:

I am Ms. Kurosaki from TMG. During a period from 2009 to 2010, I had engaged in the assignment related to Asian Human Network Databank and Interaction Asia. Currently, I am working at US Military Facilities Relations Division of Bureau of Urban Development in charge of the assignment related to US Military Base in Tokyo.
Concurrently during the same period as above mentioned, I was engaged in the assignment related to risk management at Asian Network of Major Cities 21 (ANMC21). So, in Asian Human Network Databank, I had many opportunities to meet firefighters from Asian cities. I remember that I developed a feeling of respect to see the firefighters, transcending nationalities, performing hard drills for the common purpose of life-saving.
I myself was given from Asian Human Network Databank with various incentives and knowledges. My memory with all of you I saw will never disappear in my life. Looking forward to seeing you in Tokyo again!

The fourth message is from Ms. Ryoko Sakoda from Planning Coordination Division, Office of the Governor for Policy Planning, TMG:

I had been engaged in the assignment related to the publication of Interaction Asia for 3 years from April 2011. Foreign students in Tokyo Metropolitan University cooperated actively with initiatives of Asian Human Network Databank. The students provided us frankly with information on their lives in Tokyo including their hardships as well as on their research works to which they challenge actively with high ambitions. Also, I had opportunities to deepen exchanges with administrative officers from Asian cities. While they continued to exert themselves for problem-solving in Asian major cities, they were kind to respond to our interviews. I was deeply impressed with their warm personalities.
Taking this occasion, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you. Thank you very much.
