A total of 12 joint projects were promoted to resolve issues common to major cities. In each project, the city that proposed the project served as the “organizing city”, while other cities took part as “participating cities” according to the relevance of the project’s theme. Activities conducted under the projects included holding conferences and seminars, training programs, and international events.
Since the suspension of the network’s activities, the joint projects for which Tokyo had been serving as the organizing city have been implemented as projects under the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (working-level cooperation among multiple cities).
・Platform for Technology and Industry
【Summary】
This project aims to further promote economic exchanges between member cities through research and study on common issues discussed at plenary meeting policy dialogues, development of relevant technologies and human resources, and the roll-out of associated products on the Asian market.

・Promotion of Development of a small to medium-sized Jet Passenger Plane(2001 - 2013)
【Summary】
In order to meet a growing demand for air travel in Asia, the development of a small to medium-sized
jet passenger plane of Asian origin is promoted.
【Achievement】
Various achievements have been made over the course of more than 10 years of activities, such as
the promotion of the development of a small to medium-sized jet passenger plane in Asia, proposals for
the development of a future Asian passenger plane, the establishment of a network of aircraft specialists
in Asia, and the training of human resources. This project has steadily contributed to the development of
the aircraft manufacturing industry in Asia. It is expected that those involved in Asian airplane industry
will go on to develop a passenger plane manufactured in Asia in the future.

・ICT Initiatives for Urban Development

Through the formulation of strategies for developing e-government and broadband infrastructure,
this project aims to explore the concept of a digital city. The member cities will discuss ICT,
share knowledge and experiences, and will announce their outcomes.
・Development of Affordable, Safe and Fast Mass Housing Technology Project
【Summary】
The Project involves sharing of knowledge and experiences in mass housing or developing
technologies that can produce large quantity of cheap but safe housing units daily.
・Urban and Global Environment Problems
【Summary】
Through the exchange of information, the project aims to improve the state of atmospheric pollution
and resolve health problems by upgrading technology and policy for dealing with vehicular emission.
In order to curb global warming, this project aims to study energy policies feasible for the cities of
Asia such as reduction of CO2 emissions and prevalence of bio-fuels and other new forms of energy.
It will also undertake exchanges in and provision of technical information. |
・Network for Crisis Management

Experience
and knowledge concerning crisis management are shared and accumulated among
participating cities and human resources for crisis management are
developed.

・Countermeasures to Combat Infectious Diseases in Asia
【Summary】
In order to build a permanent, stable and secure network for health professionals (doctors and
researchers), a communication system among administrative, research and medical institutions of
participating cities is established so that major cities can act quickly to any outbreak of infectious
disease in Asia.

・Asian Performing Arts Festival
【Summary】
At the APAF, Asian cities collaborate with each other to present works and organize workshops for
stimulating exchanges between artists, promoting the arts and culture in Asia.

・Women's Participation in Society
【Summary】
Goal of this project is to compile information on existing measures regarding women's issues and to
deliver services and information through a single window in each city. This project also intends to hold
the representative women's seminar and conduct various research projects as well as cooperative
activities regarding women's policy.

Tokyo will invite junior players and trainers from Asia to participate in junior sports exchange
events in order to raise the competitive skills of the players.
・Staff Capacity Enhancement Program
