【Implementation Reports of the Joint Projects】 ・Implementation reports were presented on the following joint projects Promotion of Development of a small to medium-sized Jet Passenger Plane (Presentation - Tokyo) ・In October 2007, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) hosted a Working Level Meeting for the joint project "Promotion of Development of a small to medium-sized Jet Passenger Plane." At the Asian Passenger Plane Forum which was held on the same day, the TMG reported that member cities had discussed the essentials of a proposal which is to be put together by the project's Examination Committee, stating that an Asian passenger jet which consolidates the cutting-edge technologies of Japan and the other Asian cities, is a symbol of Asian partnership and a project that Asian countries should pursue cooperatively. The forum served as a public relations platform for the project, enabling it to share its vision with Tokyo citizens and executives of Japanese and foreign aviation industry companies. Tokyo pledged to continue deepening its cooperation with each participating city while implementing actions geared towards the development of a 100-seat class jet passenger plane. Countermeasures to Combat Infectious Diseases in Asia (Presentation - Tokyo) ・It was reported that practical expertise in prevention and treatment of infectious diseases was shared through the holdings of the second and third meetings of the ANMC21 joint project, Countermeasures to Combat Infectious Diseases in Asia, held, respectively, in Taipei in August last year and Hanoi this November, and the training session in Tokyo this March. It was also reported that information exchange is being carried out by member cities through the establishment of a website and via the infectious disease network system directly linking the healthcare facilities of each city over the Internet, and that the member cities will also be implementing joint studies and research. Network for Crisis Management (Presentation - Tokyo and Jakarta) ・It was reported that through the Fourth Asian Crisis Management Conference held in Singapore in September of last year and the Fifth Asian Crisis Management Conference held in Jakarta this November, the participating cities were able to share practical expertise for crisis management such as how to respond to acts of terrorism and nuclear, biological, and chemical attacks. Concerning the future directions of the project, it was reported that collaboration between cities will be strengthened through initiatives including communications drills over the Internet-based emergency hotline and reciprocal participation by member cities in each other's disaster management drills; concrete studies will also be conducted with the aim to build a framework for mutual assistance during disasters. “Welcome to Asia” Campaign (Presentation - Tokyo) ・A report was made on initiatives taken to attract tourists from Europe, North America, Oceania, and Asia. These include the holding of the Fifth Council for Promotion of Tourism in Delhi in October last year and the Sixth Council for Promotion of Tourism, in Kuala Lumpur this September; joint publicity campaigns involving the creation and use of posters and other materials, and monitor tours for exchanges between travel industry and media representatives of member cities; and the proactive dissemination of information such as new campaign events via a portal site. Fruits of activities to date were also reported. These included the sharing of information on successful cases of tourism promotion activities taken by member cities and the increase in unified PR activities. Asian Performing Arts Festival (Presentation - Taipei) ・The Fourth Asian Performing Arts Festival was held in Taipei from November 29 to December 3, 2006. The theme was "Asia Transforming" and performances expressed the changing nature of Asia. As well as stage performances there were also workshops where performers shared their experiences. International Centre for Urban Development and Management (Presentation - Kuala Lumpur) ・A total of 10 courses were run between 2003-2006 on topics including "Water and Public Health" and "Integrated Urban Planning for Sustainable Urban Management". Activities for 2007 included a course in June on "Sustainable Urban Transport" and a training program will be organized in Manila in December. Women's Participation in Society (Presentation - Seoul) ・The Third Women's Participation in Society Symposium was held in Taipei in November, 2007. A website was launched as a joint project. |

【Review of the Joint Projects】 ・The final report of the Review of the Joint Projects was made, defining the accomplishments of the joint projects to date and summarizing initiatives and directions to be taken to boost activities. The review was adopted. |

【Policy Dialogue "URBANITY : Harmony Amidst Diversity"】 ・Reports were made by Manila, Bangkok, and Taipei on the topic of implementing policies aiming to raise morals, obedience and discipline, and other traits to increase harmony among citizens, followed by discussion by the participating cities. |

【Special Report "Global Warming"】 ・Manila and Tokyo reported on their initiatives to curb global warming, followed by presentations by Jakarta and Seoul. This was followed by discussions by the participating cities. Tokyo reported on initiatives including its formulation of a policy to reduce the city's greenhouse gas emissions by 25% over 2000 levels by 2020 based on the 10-Year Project for a Carbon-Minus Tokyo, and its work to make reductions mandatory for businesses emitting large quantities of CO2 based on the Policy for Tokyo Climate Change Strategy. |
