■The Ninth Plenary Meeting in Tokyo
The Ninth Plenary Meeting of the Asian Network of Major Cities 21 was held in Tokyo from November 7 to 10, 2010.
On the morning of the first day, the opening ceremony was held, followed by implementation reports on joint projects as well as a message from observer city Tomsk, Russia. During the afternoon session, presentations were given on the initiatives each member city is taking to reduce its environmental impact and to promote industry and new technology, with active discussions initiated between the heads of each member city in attendance. This same day featured lectures from the top management of two Japanese companies and one organization. The Tokyo Declaration was adopted during the morning session of the second day as a culmination of the meeting. The remaining time and final day was devoted to site visits in Tokyo to facilities and events relevant to the theme of this year’s meeting.
In addition, in conjunction with the hosting of the 9th ANMC21 Plenary Meeting, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government designated October and November as Tokyo Asian Month. A call was made for public events to promote mutual understanding and exchange between Tokyo and Asian cities, with a total of 43 events officially recognized as Tokyo Asian Month commemorative events.
